Captain's Blog — May 24th & 25th, 2008On Saturday I fished with Denise, her dad Bob and Steve. This crew fished we me last year and comes prepared to do battle. We opted for off shore from the get go. The day gave us a steady pick with over 20 hook ups! Last year Denise had big fish honors, however Steve planned differently. Pictured is Steve with a nice 10lb Steelhead. This fish came off the 200' copper rig with a spoon. Most of the day was spent in 120 to 150 foot of water. Action came on top with red spoons and off the riggers with sliders, action with a lot of smaller class fish. Sunday we started early and made a pass in tight for browns. Another beautiful day on Lake Ontario ! Brown fishing this year has been somewhat slow, however Denise was quick on the lead core out two colors and managed a nice looking male brown. After our inside pass we went offshore again for a chance at some spring kings. Steve was up and the 300' copper smoked off. He battled for 5 minutes and it came off. Feeling determined, he was not going to be denied. A bit later Bob managed a beautiful 9 lb steelhead. The day like Saturday was a steady pick. Steve was up again and this time he closed the deal with a frisky 18 lb spring king. Today we found more active fish in 80 to 120 foot of water. Froggy NK with silver bellies worked great! Overall, this crew for two days had hooked about 40 fish and landed most of them. Except for the 26” lake trout the captain mistakenly released to swim another day. Steve has bragging rights for another year! I look forward to fishing with them again! Captain Jerry, |
